IT-results: three major events of 2017

№1 BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY is the absolute leader. From my point of view, the most significant event of the year is mass recognition and adoption of the open registries (or blockchain) technology. It is very essential that despite Bitcoin phenomenon claims to be the most significant IT event of 2017, it is just a special case of blockchain along with property rights registries (real estate, stocks, etc.) and many other useful applications. Therefore, I put blockchain in the title and Bitcoin, even though it is being part of the first place, is mentioned in the description. Indeed, Bitcoin is essential for fintech, global economy and banking sector, but the influence of the core blockchain technology is spread to the most of everything associated with IT.
№2 THE NEW CUSTOMERS’ DATA PROCESSING POLICIES, KYC and numerous anti- money laundering and anti- terrorism regulations, stronger requirements for the collection, storage and transfer of user data and the end of a “pure freedom of Internet content” era.. All this have the fundamental impact on IT and near-IT business, which has already started changing together with the way and how users get services and content in Russia and around the world. A sharp change of these ‘data rules’ in 2017 will have a lasting impact to the further evolution of the entire IT industry.
№3 MASS INTRODUCTION OF BIG DATA and ARTIFICIAL NTELLIGENCE are all IT ‘chips’ that have changed our life once and forever. In 2017 no one was no longer surprising by cases like a story of “How Target Figured Out A Teen Girl Was Pregnant Before Her Father Did”. And the artificial intelligence has launched its undisguised offensive in the labor market, beginning to squeeze out lower-level bank employees, lawyers and some other categories of workers.
