IT WAS LONELY WHEN I WAS BY MYSELF

I got drafted in 1966, one year out of high school.

I was in Nam in 1966- 67 with the 11th Combat Aviation Battalion. I missed both holidays for those two years. It was lonely when I was by myself.

I met a guy in basic training Jerry Lemons, from Illinois. We went through basic, at Fort Leonard Wood and at Ft. Polk Louisiana and Vietnam, and last 6 months at Ft. Ord in California. We were together the whole 2 years, without the buddy plan.

My son served during Desert Storm and my grandson has been to Iraq and Afghanistan.
