STAY!

What a beautiful day this turned out to be.

Today the Texas Parole Board denied a recommendation of clemency and at the same time recommended that Governor Abbott grant at 120 day reprieve that Reed’s attorneys had requested in or to pursue various new evidence of innocence. A short time later, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals issued a stay and sent the case back to the trial court. This is a solid situation and it certainly means the case gets to continue and Rodney Reed will NOT be executed on November 20, 2019. What a terrific sense of relief for all concerned. Thank you to everyone who had a hand in this life-saving victory! Sr. Helen Prejean made this short greeting to Rodney’s family and supporters.

The day started with a Global Solidarity Prayer Vigil & Rally at the US Supreme Court, coordinated by Death Penalty Action at the request of the Reed family. Watch the video of this powerful event here. See photos here. And read this terrific report from the National Council of Churches!
