While it’s exciting to buy or rent a new home, it’s almost unavoidable that a few things are forgotten or not considered. This article has a few pieces of advice to help make the whole process a little bit easier and less stressful.

Remove Heavy/Fragile Items from Dressers

It’s much easier to move a lightweight dresser than a heavy one. If the dresser isn’t very sturdy, you should make sure you take everything out of it, while a sturdy dresser can handle some clothing items. Regardless of whether or not the dresser is sturdy, any heavy and fragile items should be taken out. it might seem like it isn’t a big deal, but leaving all kinds of stuff in could also break down the dresser. Not to mention, if you’re hiring movers to help you, they aren’t going to appreciate having to move a dresser that’s weighed down by a bunch of random stuff that could’ve been removed before they arrived. They also don’t want to take the chance of breaking anything important or of value because you forgot to remove the items from the dresser.

Have Parking for the Moving Truck

Imagine this, you’ve gotten everything packed up and you’re ready to start moving. You’ve hired movers to help you move your stuff and they should’ve been here 20 minutes ago. You’re phone starts ringing and it’s the movers. They tell you they’ve been driving around for 20 minutes looking for somewhere to park. If this happens, they might have to wait and help you move another day. This will throw off your entire moving plan. It’s easy to avoid this. All you have to do is make sure that you reserve parking for the movers at both locations. This will help ensure everything goes smoothly and there aren’t any surprises in terms of the movers.

Reserve an Elevator

This isn’t such a bad thing if you live in a house or on the bottom floor, but it comes into play if you live on the top floor. The last thing you want is for the movers to have a big load of stuff and need to use the elevator, only for it to open and be full of people. This is going to drag the whole thing out and make things more complicated. The best thing to do is try and reserve at least one elevator that you can use. This will prevent other people from using this elevator and you won’t have any unexpected delays.

Label Boxes by Room

This is a helpful tip for everyone involved. You can get cheap moving boxes from quite a few different places and you can write on them with pretty much anything. For starters, it will be easier to pack everything up because you’ll know exactly where you’re putting everything. In addition, the movers can group stuff together and they won’t be bringing a bunch of different stuff at a time. It will also be easier for you because they can put the boxes in different areas. For example, they could group all the kitchen boxes in one area and the bathroom boxes in another. It just makes everything much more organized and easier to unpack.

These tips should make everything a tad bit easier for you. Since moving can be stressful on it’s own, you want to make sure you have the least amount of stress possible!
