When you have diverse decision makers, it speaks to what’s attainable within that company. If a young person entering into that company with a diverse background doesn’t see any representation at a decision-making level, then they will subconsciously draw a ceiling as to what they can accomplish within the company. A lot of times, this can be off-putting, as they may have these big ambitions and want to bring value to the company but if they don’t see themselves represented, then they don’t see that as a possibility for them.

It’s also well-documented that the more diverse representation you have…

As a leader, it’s your job to bring voices to the table to identify opportunities and risks. If all of those voices are essentially saying the same thing because they are influenced by similar sets of experiences and perspectives, you’re only seeing and hearing part of the picture, like only seeing half of a photograph. You can guess at what the other half shows, but you could be wildly wrong. …

Find your passion: Self-tanner has always been my #1 go-to beauty product. I’ve created products I truly love and built a brand with a mission that I genuinely believe in.

This real passion is what has made the brand so successful, as the beauty industry is very competitive, and I live and breathe the brand every single day.

As a part of our series about “Five Things You Need To Know To Succeed In The Modern Beauty Industry”, I had the pleasure of interviewing Lindsay Hirsch, a business woman, expecting mother and the Founder of award winning self tanning mousse…

I would love to inspire people to go after their dreams. Most people are sleepwalking throughout their lives and we normally die asleep. Some people ‘wake up’ after a tragic event. Thank God I woke up. I realized most of the things I was going after did not even matter. The funny thing is we only get one chance at life what would happen if we all decided to actually live fully. You are one of a kind and the world needs you to be authentically you. No apologies, be who you are. …

Diversity is extremely important to me.

One reason is that it brings to the table different degrees of knowledge and experience.

Any humble entrepreneur should realize that ideas and suggestions often come from the input of others.

Diversity can lend itself to including different cultures in your business, which in turn can expand the horizons of your customer base.

I had the distinct pleasure of interviewing Deidra Smith.

She is known as a serial entrepreneur by those who she has helped start and expand their businesses. Since 2009 she has birthed four businesses worthy of mention. …

Sharing your message and products: You will have to tweak the way you share your message and products until your audience understands and relates. We began our business thinking everyone would understand our products and message. We believed the first time we launched was going to be successful. Although this may be true for some…. it didn’t work out like that for us. The truth is, you really can’t predict how your audience will feel when they see your content. So, you have to tweak, change the models, change the lighting, change the setting, change the time content is released…

Never forget your why. It is slightly insane to wake up one day and decide to launch a company; it really is. There are so many easier walks of life and career paths a person can embark on. That’s why purpose has to be embedded in the foundation; otherwise, you will give up because there’s something less demanding that you could do.

I had the distinct pleasure of interviewing Jimi Tele, Founder and CEO of Chekmate.

A high-performing business development executive and rising international entrepreneur with 8+ years experience in business & tech, Jimi has specialized expertise in location data…

Only do business with people who share your values. We spent a lot of time vetting both our vendors, brokers, and partners. It became obvious who shared or didn’t share our values quickly. We learned to move on from those who don’t align quickly, and the right people will show up to replace them. Every time.

As a part of our series about “Five Things You Need To Know To Succeed In The Modern Beauty Industry”, I had the pleasure of interviewing Gina DiStefano, CEO of Mom Bomb, a luxury bath and beauty brand that gives 100% of its profits…

Be innovative — always look for ways to improve the process (any process — including your own service and/or product). This is a fast moving industry, highly dependent on social media and influencers. Innovation does not always mean making a better product, especially if your niche is a wholesome simple organic product that can’t be improved with better formulas or chemistry. Sometimes innovation is constantly finding new ways to deliver the message or fulfill demand.

As a part of our series about “Five Things You Need To Know To Succeed In The Modern Beauty Industry”, I had the pleasure of…

Trial period. Before stamping your name on a new product or procedure, take your time to learn about it and experiment with it. The trust of our patients is all we have, and we can never lose it.

Listen to your patients. Follow social media to know what patients are looking for and adapt, quickly. Different groups have different priorities, Baby boomers are fading but are still here, Gen X have major cosmetic needs, Millennials are concerned about looking good in their social media posts and Gen Z are coming out of acne and their sequelae.

As a part of…
