Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak news events: dedicated site

An alternative news structure, which currently tracks all coronavirus related events is presented below.

factroot.com (beta) is a novel solution to cluster and interlink various news events chronologically. Currently in beta, only coronavirus related news is tracked.

Presented here is a an alternative news structure, compared to many of the existing popular solutions.

News is organized chronologically based on key global events and events are clustered/split to sub-events based on different parallel themes. Events or sub-events are inter-linked as appropriate to enable smooth browsing. This enables a contextual news browsing platform, which is easily readable.

Much of the popular visual news content(image or video) although provides instant viewer gratification, takes the focus away from actual textual content of the news. Such visual content is deliberately not captured in this solution.

Search based news portals, does a poor job of organizing the news events. While it does a good job of tracking the latest breaking news, but doesn’t organize the news in a historical context, hence is not much useful for serious readers. Also they expose readers to large volume of news articles generated by the search engine, without much context.

News can be organized in a smart contextual manner, by improving brevity of articles displayed, collapsing related news, while still maintaining the chronology of events. The goal is to collapses/cluster news events in a manner that strikes a right balances between event chronology vs. volume of similar events to-be-shown at any given time.

The eventual goal is to drastically improve the readability and browsability of the news structure. Factroot (beta) is based on various open source and proprietary NLP techniques to achieve this end goal. The current solution is in it’s early phases of beta development .

Factroot is currently tracking coronavirus related news events, but the solution is generic. The platform is completely non-profit currently.
