My name is Liz, and I’m a shoe lover with a confession to make. I refuse to wear high heels. In fact, I hate them. This fact may not come as surprising to many of you, being that I am a self-proclaimed lover of comfortable women’s shoes. And let’s be honest — high heels don’t usually fit into that category. Here’s why:

- They’re uncomfortable.

- They’re bad for your feet.

- They’re difficult to walk in.

- They’e painful (especially when worn for long periods of time).

Essentially, high heels are everything that’s wrong with the women’s footwear industry, in my opinion.

Maybe you find yourself in the same boat as me, and you also can’t stand wearing high heels. You may be wondering just want to wear instead of heels. Are there any other women’s shoes out there that can give you all the height of high heels without any of the negatives that are so commonly associated with them? Well, ladies, fear not! I have the answer for you — comfortable designer wedges.

The wedges vs heels debate is nothing new in the footwear industry, but with the increase in demand for stylish yet comfortable women’s shoes, this debate has been reinvigorated in recent years. So why do I, a self-proclaimed shoe aficionado, hate heels but love wedges? Here are my reasons.

Wedges are more comfortable than heels

This one is pretty self-explanatory, but I’m going to explain it anyway. Simply put, women’s wedges are simply more comfortable than most traditional high heels or women’s pumps. Instead of putting all the weight on one point on the heel, wedges evenly distribute the weight all throughout the foot. This means that you can wear a pair of comfortable designer wedges for a much longer period of time than you could for a similar designer pair of heels. Walking in wedge sandals is also much easier, because they give you a more even, stable surface to walk on, as opposed to high heels which bring a greater risk of slippage, tripping, and general unpleasantness. And with even more footwear comfort features and technology on the market today, such as memory foam, contoured footbeds and soft, supple leathers, a high-quality designer wedges are now more comfortable than ever before. So why suffer through the pain of an uncomfortable pair of heels, when you can get the same great height and style with women’s wedges? Sounds like a no-brainer to me!

My personal favorite wedges are those with a subtle platform, or “flatform” as they are most often called. I love them because they add proper support, cushioning, and just the right bit of height that I absolutely love. They’re my go-to shoe for all of my spring and summer looks!

Wedges add more height than heels

While high heels are often touted as being the ultimate way to add height to your step and make even the shortest woman appear statuesque, wedges and wedge sandals can often can provide the same if not even more height than the tallest high heels, all while still providing a comfortable, more steady surface for your feet to walk on. One example of wedge that adds a ton of height is the platform wedge. This on-trend style features a platform that brings the shoe an inch (or more) off the ground, while still providing the wedge heel that raises the back of your feet even more. This is an easier, more comfortable alternative to high heels that can effortlessly and painlessly add inches to your look. Take that, stillettos!

Wedges are surprisingly versatile.

From dressy metallics to fur-lined boots, wedges come in all shapes, sizes, colors and varieties. They’re surprisingly more versatile than you may think — and here’s just a few ways you can wear them all throughout the seasons. For spring, find an adorable pair of closed toe transition wedges to welcome in the warmer weather. For summer, go all out with fashion-forward open-toed wedge sandals, adorned with jewels, espadrille weaving, and anything else your creative mind can think of. Fall approaching? Close it back up with another pair of chic transitional platform wedges in on-trend autumn colors like burgundy or mocha. And when winter approaches, snag a pair of comfortable wedge boots, which are all the rage in the fashion world. Dress ’em up or down or somewhere in-between. No matter how you wear them, wedges are a great alternative to heels for virtually every occasion, season, and style.

Wedges are More Stylish than Heels.

Let’s be honest, heels and pumps are a dime a dozen. They’re a traditional, and frankly somewhat boring and outdated footwear style that gives little to no variety to the wearer. Wedges on the other hand, have so much more to offer. From a more comfortable, stable construction to a varied and versatile design, these comfortable designer shoes are truly going places. Women’s wedges are a big trend in the fashion world, due to their marriage of form and function, and effortless we-arability. From espadrille summer wedges to chic and comfortable wedge boots, this footwear trend has taken the world by storm. Here’s hoping that it’s a lasting trend that will continue to prevail for many years to come!
