Overview: Radium is a verification software and protocol that allows businesses and the like to ensure the validity of any transaction, file, etc .

According to Justin Jacobeen , founder of Radium, “The idea behind Radium is that everyone uses blockchains mostly for financial transactions, that is what Bitcoin is based on, that is what I would say 90% of what other coins do. But the very core of how a blockchain works, financial transactions are just information, just data, and what Radium figured is, why don’t we look at putting some other stuff into the blockchain? It doesn’t have to be a financial transaction. Why don’t we put other information, say the identity of another individual?Or why don’t we put in the information regarding like say the Hash of a file? Everyone is pretty familiar with how blockchains and financial records work. You send some Bitcoin, its incredibly hard to change that record in the blockchain because of either the proof of work requirement or the proof of stake requirement. But not we have leveraged that same security, and added that to an identity. So that if you were to receive a file, or something, you could look up that identity in the blockchain and have the same sort of confidence, that the information you are looking at, is valid, that you would as though you were looking at a Bitcoin or some other financial based transaction.”

Radium currently offers two products: SmartChain Verify and Radium Core

SmartChain Verify

The Radium SmartChain is both software and a protocol designed to harness the distributed irreversibility of blockchain technology. It is designed to bring that power into the hands of casual and business users alike. Anyone can intuitively use the SmartChain to easily adapt to and utilize the powers of Proof-of-Existence and Proof-of-Ownership. The Radium SmartChain is a combination of several new protocols which provide the framework for the development of advanced blockchain based functions. All functions are rooted in a 100% decentralized and permission-less system powered by ‘Smart Transactions’. At the same time, benefits of a permission-ed system are provided through additional core layers. Those layers include required identity verification, methods of recourse in the event of private key compromise, and distributed custodial accounts. Each of these individual components are explained in more detail below.

Radium Core

The core is the software client which allows users to read data from and interact with the SmartChain data layer. Radium Core is the foundation of SmartChain technology. It is a blockchain powered by people all around the world. Radium Core maintains benefits of a permissionless blockchain, while the benefits of a permissioned system are maintained within the SmartChain. This documentation will go into the details of how to install Radium Core .

Additional features

SmartChain Services

SmartChain Verify — Windows

SmartChain Verify is a platform that allows a user to check a local file against file hashes recorded in the Radium blockchain. If the file hash has been stored in the chain, the system will report who recorded the file, the name of the file, and when it was recorded. This information allows the user to verify that the program has not been tampered with or replaced with an imposter. The Windows SmartChain Verify installer creates an option in the Windows right click context menu titled “Verify file with the SmartChain” that, when activated, will hash the selected file and check it against a list of known file hashes maintained by the SmartChain Verify servers. While Radium and Radon are required to place a file hash in the blockchain, the user can check the origin of as many files as they wish at no cost whatsoever.

SmartChain Verify — Linux

SmartChain Verify for Linux accomplishes the same end goal as SmartChain Verify for Windows, while taking advantages of various Linux specific efficiencies.

SmartChain Verify — Web

The SmartChain Verify Website provides all the same functions, but through a web based application. This is an option for those who want to check a download link before downloading a file itself. The user provides a link to a downloadable file, and the SmartChain Verify Website’s servers handle all the leg work.

SmartChain APIs

SmartChain Core API

The SmartChain API provides a JSON API for reading SmartChain Account and verified file information, enabling development of third-party applications. The API supports retrieval of SmartChain Account details and whether the hash is of a file that has been verified on the SmartChain; the same information that is available both in the SmartChain Core and SmartChain Verify.

SmartChain Verify API

The SmartChain Verify API allows the user to specify a download that they would like verified through a machine-friendly interface. Responses can be returned as both visual and machine-friendly JSON responses.

Cloud and Container Options

Microsoft Azure

Radium is available for deployment on Virtual Private Servers (VPS) via our Azure Quick Start Template. Users can quickly deploy and configure a VPS with RPC connection information directly from the Azure console. The config files are automatically configured, and the daemon is started at boot s the Radium node is ready for RPC connections without the user of SSH or the command line.

Amazon AWS

Radium is available for deployment on Amazon Cloud in all ten geographical regions. Community maintained Amazon Machine instance (AMI) allows a user to launch their own Radium node as an Amazon EC2 instance in minutes. Amazon Cloud EC2 instances are some of the easiest and fastest launching virtual servers in the industry, making EC2 an excellent platform for hosting a Radium node.

Docker

In the hopes of streamlining future software development infrastructure, Radium nodes can be also launched from our Docker container. Docker containers dramatically reduce the time needed to spin-up Radium nodes, and can serve the same purpose as Azure Quick Start templates or AWS AMIs.

2. Funding Availability

The coin was launched in May 2015. There was an approximately 2 week Scrypt Proof of Work period, followed by decreasing PoS rewards. The PoS reward has recently declined to 0.75 coins per block plus Spread Fees.

Currently tokens can be purchased via Changelly

Trend Analysis

Identity access management systems (IAM) and verification of data are two areas that are gaining more widespread global attention. With the advent of the so-called Internet of Things devices becoming more prevalent users will find that their identity and the possibility for theft will only increase. As identity verification is essential nowadays to conduct just about any day to day transaction, the demand for more secure measures will be every sought after.

Radium seems to be positioning itself perfectly to handle the identity verification market.

The statistic shows a breakdown of the revenue for the IT security products market in 2015, by segment. Around 68 percent of the projected total of 35 billion U.S. dollars on IT security products worldwide are attributable to the secure content and threat management (SCTM) segment. The SCTM segment includes endpoint security, network security, messaging security and web security.

Conclusion

It is clearly obvious that the vast amounts of data in and around us will only increase. As we consume more and as devices require more interaction via the internet, identity access management/governance and verification of files will also increase.

The identity & access management market is estimated to grow from USD 8.09 Billion in 2016 to USD 14.82 Billion by 2021, at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 12.9% between 2016 and 2021. Major growth drivers of the market are rise in awareness about compliance management across various industries, increase in security concerns among organizations, and demand for mobility solutions. The base year considered for the study is 2015 and the forecast period is from 2016 to 2021.

The question is how well is Radium positioning itself to handle this challenge? I believe they are tackling this on all fronts from their Open APIs to their Cloud and Container Options they seem poised to be ready for all challenges. Their biggest challenge is what most new ventures face, and that is, marketing. Being good at what you do, is one thing, but being good at marketing what you do is an entirely different thing. The folks at Radium will need to create major partnerships and or joint ventures with some big players in the space and position themselves as a thought and innovative leader. To do this, will require, a certain amount of marketing spend on this initiative. With a relatively low market cap, the company seems ready to only go up from here. But once again, I must reiterate the importance of great marketing. That will be the driver in long run to get the project to mainstream .
