Did I wake up in Opposite Land? It’s early Saturday morning, and the only people out and about are wearing either suits or school uniforms (are weekends a purely Western construct?). Apart from an old man walking backwards through a park — as exercise? And another sweeping the pavement using a dustpan and — his hand; a staggering reversal of Japanese efficiency. This is all too much before 7am, by when I am wide awake and Zoë is just falling asleep. This could be a weird day.
