Hey there! I’m Ryan, Japan Marketing Supervisor at Crescendo Lab. In this post, I’ll be sharing my experience and thoughts on Crescendo Lab.

Hi! 我是漸強實驗室的日本行銷Ryan。在這篇文章中,我將會介紹在漸強實驗室的工作經歷跟想法。

What made you decide to join Crescendo Lab?

I joined Crescendo Lab back in 2021 upon graduating from college. As someone who loves to take on big challenges, when I was approached with the opportunity to be “Employer №1” of a SaaS company’s new market division, I dived in.

Aside from the “big adventure factor”, there was something else I found amusing about my company that made me join.

I noticed how “making sense” was stressed over “being right”.

Of course, being right is important, but in a job where being met with something unfamiliar is the norm (a.k.a. entering a new market), it is crucial to be able to stick to rational assumptions. This company culture in particular was what I was intrigued by the most.

我在2021年畢業後加入漸強。作為熱衷自虐挑戰自我的人,當時收到「擔任SaaS公司日本市場員工一號」的機會時,我毫不猶豫地把應聘書簽下去了。

會加入這個公司除了上述這樣「冒險家精神」的要素之外,還有一點吸引了我。

我在面試過程中察覺到:在這間公司,人們比起「能講出正確解答」更在乎你是否能「合理解釋你的判斷邏輯」

知道正確解答固然重要,但在有大量不熟悉事物的環境中(像是開拓新的市場時),能夠做出理性假設的能力會相對更為關鍵。而這一點跟我做事的理念完全對上。

What is your typical week like?

Just as our Thai Marketer Chanasa stated in her sharing, our typical week is anything but typical. Not sure if you’re buying this, so let me elaborate a bit more.

Unlike common marketing specialists, as a marketer in a 0 to 1 market, my job is to “build the foundation” for the company. This included infrastructures such as

  • working with PMs in localizing the product,
  • building a functioning website (and optimizing it),
  • creating contents such as success cases to attract target audiences, and
  • setting up and optimizing SEM Ads to draw initial traffic.

Aside from “building foundations”, I also

  • accompanied BDs to pitch clients and talk partnerships,
  • held webinars and posted PR articles to boost awareness, and
  • joined events to exchange knowledge with consultants in the field.

Do you see the task difference here?

The interesting part of working in a 0 to 1 market is how you’re not only going to do marketing. Some might even say it’s more like a project manager role. It can be a handful at times, but once you get a hold of it, the results are rewarding, and you’d be surprised how much you’ve grown.

單這麼說沒什麼說服力,我再多敘述一些。

不同於市面上常見的行銷專員,作為0到1市場的行銷負責人,我的任務更偏向為公司「打地基」。這部分的工作包含

  • 跟PM協助將產品在地化
  • 建立當地市場的官網(並持續進行優化)
  • 製作成功案例等可吸引潛在客戶搜尋/下載的內容、以及
  • 設立及優化搜尋廣告導初期流量等。

除了「打地基」,我的任務還包含

  • 跟業務一同Pitch客戶或合作(尤其是剛開始沒有會說日文的業務的時候)
  • 舉辦講座+發布PR稿提升曝光以及
  • 藉由參與不同活動跟各種顧問交換產業資訊。

在0到1市場工作有趣的點在於你的工作千變萬化且不會僅限於行銷。有些人甚至會說這比較像是專案負責人的角色。雖然有的時候要做的事會多到懷疑人生,但當你看到你的努力有幫助公司進展時,你也能切身感受到自己能力上的成長。

What do you like about Crescendo Lab?

I would say the people. And I know this sounds cliché, but hear me out.

After working here for almost 2 years, I’ve come to realize how people here are mostly vision/growth driven with strong ownership. Nothing mediocre.

But why? You may ask.

As someone who has taken part in multiple interviews for the company, it can be said that the company puts effort into finding people who have this “ownership” asset particularily during the hiring process. It’s something the company focuses on in the long run.

To attract these talents, the company provides benefits not available in many other companies in Taiwan. These include unlimited days off (we did this earlier than Microsoft) and workplace flexibility.

對你來說,漸強實驗室的哪一點是你特別喜歡的?

我會說「人」。我知道這答案聽起來很芭樂(誤),所以容我分享一下為什麼我這麼想。

在這邊工作近2年,我察覺到絕大多數在漸強就職的人是屬於「願景或成長驅使」,且具有高度ownership的人。但為什麼呢?

作為參與漸強無數次面試的人,我觀察到公司在徵才過程中確實會意圖性從人選中嘗試找出具有「ownership」的人。我想這是因為公司認知到,長遠來看,這項特質會相較於許多其他特徵來的重要。(詳見敝公司CEO大大寫的【 漸強實驗室介紹】人才學習篇)

To Summarize

Working in Crescendo Lab is definitely not an easy job.

You’ll likely be overwhelmed with the uncertainties at work and feel ineligible to get many thing done. But it is that moment of enlightenment where the real growth kicks in, and you’ll have supportive colleagues to work it out with you. Working here basically leads you through the process of the Dunning-Kruger effect.
