In the alleys of Taipei CBD, this five-level old Taiwanese-style walk-up apartment undergoes a transformation that evokes a reminiscent vibe of New York’s SOHO neighborhood.

This is the 8th project of Banana Co-living — Grin.

After taking over this former film studio building, we spent nearly a year contemplating the layout and trying without adding elements unrelated to the essence of the existing space.

Our goal was to restore the building to its most authentic form, without concealing the necessary pipelines or the anticipated natural cracks in the cement floors that develop over time.

We wanted the space and its inhabitants to interact with each other, allowing the passage of time to create Grin and every individual’s story within it. Together, we observe the traces of life’s transitions in every moment.

GRIN, a wide smile, as our expectation for this place, hoping that everyone who comes to this apartment can have a GRIN moment.

About Banana Co-Living GRIN

GRIN is located in Songjiang-Nanjing, the financial and commercial district of Taipei City, where banks, travel agencies, and airlines gather.

Nestled in the alleys, GRIN offers a relaxing sanctuary, akin to a brief respite amidst the busy affairs of the city.

GRIN Apartments consist of three levels of residential spaces, with the common area situated on the top floor.

2nd floor to 4th floor is 44 rooms, featuring four different types of layouts. Most rooms enjoy ample natural light and offer high furniture mobility, allowing for flexible arrangements.

In the corner spaces on each floor, there are designated areas for vinyl records, a book selection space in collaboration with a book brand, or simply a chair by the window where one can bask in the sunlight and gaze at the street view.

Different levels of lighting seep through the floor-to-ceiling windows and interior light sources, illuminating the rooftop communal area with layers of colors. The original deep tones of the old building, coupled with the orange roof, create a mix of vibrant and understated elements. Banana Co-living aims to bring vitality to the space and ignite residents’ curiosity through unconventional residential design approaches.

To celebrate the grand opening of GRIN, Banana Co-living created a dedicated “Instagram account” for GRIN. This account is designed with lively and bright visual tones to portray the essence of GRIN, giving the opportunity to “virtually tour” the space online.

Visiting the GRIN Instagram page allows you to have a complete overview of the building and its interior environment.

By clicking into different areas, you can explore everything from the “Front Desk” and “Art Gallery” to the various floor rooms, “Game Area,” “Storage Room,” and even the “Refrigerator.”

Upon closer observation, you will notice hidden account tags within different posts that link to designated image pages. In fact, this is a specially designed treasure hunt game, aiming to deepen the audience’s understanding of GRIN and build anticipation for the completion of the space through the process of solving puzzles.

After experiencing the exploration, “It’s miraculous, Jack!”

So, haven’t you followed GRIN?
