Charles Dickens

As a representative novelist of England in the 19th century, it gained popularity comparable to Shakespeare. Born in Portsmouth, England’s southern coastal city, as the son of a low-ranking civil servant, Dickens had a very unsuccessful childhood, from childhood to factory work because of his father who went to prison. When he was 15, he began his social life as an employee of a law firm and succeeded in becoming a journalist at the age of 20 in 1832 through reading Jo Kyung-joo. From this time on, while writing a piece of work and nurturing the artist’s dream, he became a class of famous artists by publishing the “Pickwick Document” in 1836.

Since then, he has been working as the best writer of his time for over 30 years, unfolding a rich world of novels featuring unique humor and colorful character creation. Overall, his works, in which satire comedy and sentimental humanism are in abundance, take on the character of social criticism as they go to the latter days. There are 14 feature novels including Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, Little Dorit, and The Great Heritage, and he has left numerous novels and prose works, including the famous Christmas Carol. -[Naver Knowledge Encyclopedia]

| What is different

Charles Dickens’ life went on a strict schedule.

Wake up at 7 am and work from 9 to 2 am.

His working environment was difficult, but he had three specific environments.

First, absolutely quiet space

Second, the desk facing the window

Third, nine things on the desk

The nine items were a fresh flower and a vase, a gold leaf with a rabbit, and a man statue hugging a puppy.

He was helped by these items whenever he encountered a mental disorder.

Even when traveling, I made a space where I could carry around and do ideal work everywhere.

After five hours of work, I strolled around London.

As he walked, he sharply observed everything around him, and formally recorded the passing faces and voices, developing new characters and ideas.

Walking was his literary fuel and played an important role in his work.

He returned home around 5 pm full of lively energy and ideas.

He may be portrayed as a work addict, but he rarely writes at night.

In the evening, I had some leisure time, or I had fun with friends or relatives.

He devoted himself to everyday life and claimed that this was the secret of productivity.
