A local’s paradise in Poblenou

As I enter the Green Room, on a wet, rainy evening in Barcelona, I’m met with the contrast of a warm, welcoming space and the sounds of laughter.

A group of friends are enjoying a drink at the bar, while some other patrons are sitting in the ornate wooden booths along the far wall. The booths have an almost stained-glass feature at the top which, compared with the exposed brick wall behind, gives the bar a unique décor.

The bar also has a big terrace along Rambla del Poblenou, as well as a private beer garden out the back. Either spot looks like it would be a great place to relax with a beer on a warm Barcelona evening.

I’m here to meet Alban, who co-owns the bar along with his brother. He directs to me to his favourite spot in the bar, a booth with a gigantic mirror that reflects the light hanging over the table, and makes the bar feel twice its size.

Green Room also has a lot to offer with the drinks selection. They currently have over 70 beers available, over half of which are Belgian beers. But, they also have a great selection of local beers. In addition, Green Room is planning to host their first event in the bar to promote the new Spanish cider they will have available on tap in April, “Ladrón de Manzana.”

Green Room is somewhat unusual as it is almost two bars in one. There is a bar right on the corner of Rambla del Poblenou with C/ Taulat, and then just slightly further down la Rambla you can find the bar that we are currently sitting in.

This makes Green Room the perfect spot to watch the match, as the bar we are currently in has three TVs and the one on the corner has four TVs. So, no matter what spot you are in either bar, you can have a great view of the game.

Another aspect which makes the bar very unique, is their attitude of protecting the local spirit. The bar is always in touch with their neighbours and takes measures to ensure that the bar patrons don’t make any problems for the neighbourhood.

Alban is a strong believer that bars are places to go enjoy yourself, sing, watch the match, but never in a way that could negatively affect the neighbourhood. This is a non-negotiable point for Green Room and what makes it so beloved by the Poblenou locals.

Ultimately, we highly recommend checking out Green Room the next time you’re in Poblenou. To learn more about Green Room you can check out their Facebook, Instagram and Twitter or call +34 937 63 96 12.
