As I walk into Buon Appetito on a warm, spring afternoon in Barcelona I’m met with the sounds of a bubbly conversation in Italian. I pass by the pizzero in the entranceway who is preparing for the imminent lunch rush and, immediately, it is obvious that this is not just your average pizzeria.
The original idea behind the restaurant was to get friends together to enjoy traditional Italian food. The first restaurant opened back in 2007 in a slightly smaller venue in Barceloneta, before moving to its current location in Born on Av. del Marquès de l’Argentera, 19, right across from Estació de França.
The core that identifies this restaurant is their commitment to fresh products, traveling “zero kilometres” from the market. They also import a lot of the traditional Italian ingredients directly from Italy, such as their cheeses and even the flour they use.
If you’re looking for a place that can accommodate a big group, I can’t think of anywhere better. Downstairs, the restaurant can host one single table of up to 35 people! It sounds like a great way to spend an evening, surrounded by friends in a huge table eating Italian food. Now we just need to find a big enough group…
For Italian football fans, you can enjoy the match either upstairs or downstairs and there is a distinctly Italian atmosphere as Buon Appetito has the Italian cable channel. Having the commentary in your native language can sometimes be a tricky thing to find in a foreign city, so this definitely sets it apart from the rest of the places showing the match.
