[NFT Spotlight #10] Block3, bringing NFTs to entrepreneurship

The 0xcert NFT Spotlight Series is aimed at bringing to light the 50 shades of non-fungibility. From games to cards, and from protocols to supporting services, there is no shortage of uniqueness.

The milestone-y episode 10 is proudly presenting block3, a group of young people who recognized the value of blockchain for young startups and the potentials it could bring. (For more non-fungible interviews, please scroll to the bottom of the post.)

📢 What’s the thing about block3?

block3 is a studio from the UK that helps entrepreneurs from startups through SMEs and enterprise discover what value blockchain technologies can unlock for them — not in the opaque, distant future, but today. Their focus is not to use the latest and the greatest tech merely for novel purposes, but to solve problems in new, better, and more creative ways.

💪 What nut are they cracking?

In block3, they are bringing non-fungibles to the mainstream business audience, as well as supporting the development and evolution of the companies spearheading the non-fungible movement. In their words, they are “very good at connecting the dots between tech, business problems, people, and different companies within our network.”
block3 have already introduced non-fungibles to automotive supply chain, the food industry (a better way to do “farm to fork”), the gaming world, and luxury goods market. When asked if there is more, their usual reply is, “We are just getting started ;).””

🔧 How are they doing it?

Their studio approach sees them assemble micro-teams of developers and business analysts to solve certain business puzzles. Simply put, they “unearth a problem or need, work out the best way to solve it, and then understand and demonstrate how NFTs can create an optimized solution and model.”
block3 is doing a lot of behind the scenes work to introduce developers within their network to NFTs and get them involved in the conceptualization and designing process. They are eager to work closely with the Non-Fungible Alliance to bring more developers and problem solvers into space and to support the alliance members.

Apart from creating solutions for entrepreneurs through the blockchain, block3 have also been active in running a UK meetup block3.community since 2016 with events in Nottingham and London. They are always looking to showcase new non-fungible projects, and they invite anyone with a non-fungible vision to get in touch with them and book a pitch.

❓ Non-fungible Q&A

Jonathan Millet, the CEO at block3, helped us understand their vision for the non-fungible industry and its applications in the real world.

1. What do you expect to see in 10-years time in the non-fungible field? The most creative answers count double.

Ok, gaming first. I see robust and expansive digital gaming environments and economies forming — think ‘Improbable’ with VR (or without) and non-fungible marketplaces. Ready Player One?

I see mainstream business adoption, i.e. NFTs for supply chain simulations, luxury goods (replace paper certifications), NFTs to represent financial instruments (trickier but doable).

Celebrity culture or their representatives will adopt NFTs for licensing, intellectual property, digital rights, copyright purposes.

NFT marketplaces will be widespread and used by the mainstream consumer audience. Anything from the physical world — luxury cars, watches, art, jewelry — as well as digital collectibles.

I could go on…

2. In terms of other NFT projects, which one would you nominate for a Golden Globe and why?

I would give two (if I can). Decentraland for the sheer magnitude of ambition and what they have achieved so far in terms of user base and traction. And 0xcert for beating the drum for non-fungibles and shining a light on this movement.

3. What would you rather have — your pet cat tokenized on the blockchain or a tangible, strokable 3D-version of your favorite crypto-asset?

The latter, I don’t have a pet cat. :)

4. A CryptoKitty and an Axie enter the ring. Who wins?

100% the Axie! To my knowledge, a CryptoKitty has never been in a fight and wouldn’t know where to start.
