📢 What is Ember Sword all about?

MMORPG. Blockchain MMORPG. That’s the first thing that greets you on their website and leaves you in awe and wonder. And yes, this powerful acronym holds an even more powerful meaning: a Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game.

If this doesn’t explain it for you, read further.

💪 What nut are they cracking?

Gaming is one of the most popular forms of entertainment. Until now, however, games have served as just that — a platform where you spend your time, sharpen your skills and advance through obstacles and levels.

Now, gaming has turned into an investment. With the use of non-fungible in-game items blockchainized as NFTs, Ember Sword supports the monetization of tokens and further enhance the involvement of a player in the multi-player gaming community.

🔧 How do they do it?

Ember Sword is a gaming ecosystem that is entirely run, managed and owned by the players. The evolution of the Ember Sword universe is determined by the audience and not by a pre-set gaming scenario. Since the whole platform is run on the blockchain, there is no need for a central authority to tell players what they should do or what challenges will they encounter next.

As an Ember Sword player, you can purchase a piece of land and earn from it by letting others interact with the services on it. Maybe you’re a more creative soul and virtual real-estate is not your cup of tea — you could offer your designs to other players and get rewarded with every purchase. Skins, emotes, animations, and other in-game creations are waiting for your signature creative touch.

By definition, all non-fungible in-game assets are tradable with other players across the gaming industry, and there is never a shortage of demand. Tokenized cosmetics are therefore an essential feature of the open-world fantasy world that sets Ember Sword even further apart from traditional gaming schemes.

Gameplay participation is the key. If you were used to buying in-game items, tools, and assets through a third-party shop or even on the black market, now you can gain them through playing. The Ethereum blockchain backing Ember Sword enables classless progression system, player-managed economy, and in-game land ownership.

The newly acquired land or in-game crypto collectibles are tokenized as ERC-721 non-fungible tokens and remain in your sole discretion. You can merely own and forget about them until another player shows interest in having some, you can develop them into something bigger by building an asset on top of it, or sell it the minute it becomes valuable enough for you to make the trade.

Another pillar of the Ember Sword token economy is the ERC-20 PIXEL token, used as a currency in the game environment for players to buy in-game purchases, reward creators, or apply for monthly subscriptions.

The moment you get into the game, the fate of your assets lies in your hands. And that’s what gaming should be all about.

❓ Non-fungible Q&A

One of the biggest industries leveraging the NFTs is gaming. Sune Thorsen, CMO at Ember Sword, understands the potential and is not afraid to say it.

1. What do you expect to see in 10-years time in the non-fungible field? The most creative answers count double.

I expect to see the majority of large-scale multiplayer games that sell cosmetics and other vanity items as the core of their business model connect each such cosmetic to a non-fungible token. This move towards tokenizing game items will happen as soon as developers understand that they can use tokenization to capitalize on the real-money trades of game items already taking place on black markets.

From the consumer’s perspective, I expect every game to be as comfortable with the idea of a cryptocurrency wallet as people today are with Paypal (although I’m confident consumer won’t call it a wallet but rather refer to it by the brand of wallet they use). For the average consumer, the “wallet” is just a company that stores my tokens until I want to sell them, just like Paypal stores my fiat until I’m ready to use it.

2. In terms of other NFT projects, which one would you nominate for a Golden Globe and why?

I’d nominate OpenSea. Their secondary market for trading NFTs will play a major role in popularizing crypto collectibles among average consumers, and I’m excited to see which services they build in the future, both for consumers and developers.

3. What would you rather have — your pet cat tokenized on the blockchain or a tangible, strokable 3D-version of your favorite crypto-asset?

I’d go for a tangible 3D-version of my favorite crypto-asset any day. Tokenizing cats is so last year. ;)

(We love you, CryptoKitties. ❤️)

4. A CryptoKitty and an Axie enter the ring. Who wins?

Have you ever owned a cat? Those furry fellas are killing-machines in disguise!

5. Finish the joke: “An Ember Sward player walks into a bar…”

…and buys everything on the menu with the money made from selling Ember Sword cosmetics earned for free in-game.”

🎨💰

The more use cases the NFTs penetrate, the more promising their future becomes. The Ember Sword team has been incredibly committed to bringing the benefits of the non-fungible economy to the gaming field, and we’re excited to see the whole industry evolve with them leading the way. Big thanks to Sune and his colleagues for their role in the NFT community!
