“No matter how hard we work, we can’t beat them,” Ernie said. As the founder of a local organic grocery store, Ernie served his community for over twenty years. Things went well until Whole Foods built one of their grocery-stores-on-steroids across the street from his humble little market. And that’s when half of Ernie’s customers switched their weekly shopping trips from his stores to the shiny new object.
While Ernie’s store had unique products, he didn’t have all the resources, buying power, and investment capacity of an international company.
“We’re just a small business. How can we compete?” Ernie asked.
