Bread or soup?

What would you rather make without a recipe, bread or soup?

When baking bread, you prepare a dough, put it in the oven, and then you cross your fingers and wait. With some luck, the bread will taste good and the texture and crust will be just right. But there isn’t really anything you can do once it’s in the oven. You give yourself one shot at success.

On the other hand, making soup is more flexible. You can taste and adjust as you go, adding salt and tweaking the flavours until they’re just right. It’s an iterative process that allows you to refine and improve your dish continuously.

By embracing iteration, you give yourself the freedom to adapt and respond to the unexpected. Maybe your original idea isn’t as good as you first thought, or perhaps you stumble upon a happy accident that elevates your creation in a new direction.

When you face uncertainty and have no clear recipe to follow, look for opportunities to iterate instead of betting on just one shot.
