The Virtual Agile Camp Berlin 2020 Schedule

We will have three virtual conference days instead of the in-person Agile Camp Berlin’s usual two days. Also, we need to invest more time preparing the vACB20, as for obvious reasons, we cannot improvise at the usual level when we go virtual. The great news is that we do not have to clean up the venue afterward. (Although it is incredible to see how fast that works when 30–40 people join the effort.)

The schedule of vACB20 looks as follows:

  1. October 14, 2020, from 4–6 pm: Session planning. (Please suggest your sessions in advance, as we need to set up the event software accordingly.)
  2. October 22, 2020, from 1–7 pm: Day 1 of the Agile Camp Berlin 2020.
  3. October 23, 2020, from 1–7 pm: Day 2 of the Agile Camp Berlin 2020.
  4. October 24, 2020, from 1–5 pm: Day 3 of the Agile Camp Berlin 2020.
  5. October 24, 2020, from 5–6 pm: Retrospective of the virtual Agile Camp Berlin 2020.

We will have an additional prep session for the sessions hosts to introduce the event software.

The Technology of the Virtual Agile Camp Berlin 2020

You may have heard of the expression β€œCambrian explosion” before. Beyond paleontology, it refers to when we suddenly observe a fundamental shift to more diversity in a specific field. At the moment, the software market for organizing virtual events goes through such a Cambrian explosion.

After checking out several contenders, and even running trials, we opted for Veertly.com, a brand-new application from a startup that shows remarkable dedication, speed, and β€” more importantly β€” great support for our virtual Barcamp than other players.

We will use Veertly.com as the wrapper application of the virtual Agile Camp Berlin 2020. Veerty provides breakout rooms that adhere to the law-of-two-feet and a large central stage where we will be live streaming Content. It also supports personal video chat rooms for attendees that can replicate the serendipity moments you enjoy during an in-person event at the coffee machines.

Technically speaking, you will need an up-to-date browser β€” preferably Chrome β€” to participate in the vACB20. We also recommend using an external microphone to improve your sound quality. Some sessions may require additional software, think of Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Google Apps, to fully appreciate the intended experience. Those requirements will be listed in the description of the session.

The Agile Camp Berlin Workshop Day

One area that we are still working on is the Agile Camp Berlin Workshop Day. Initially, we planned to provide well-known trainers and coaches with an opportunity β€” here: space β€” to run one-day workshops the day before the Agile Camp Berlin 2020. It looks like that those workshops might be transferred to virtual live-classes, and we will keep you posted on the development!

Guest Speakers?

Given that Veertly provides a central stage, we could also live-stream talks from guest speakers or even a panel of speakers. We are working on this idea of guest speaking, too, and will keep you posted.
