Day 20 — Condensing the notes (700 pages to 4 pages)

It would be giving a false picture, if I said that it took one day. In fact, condensing my notes from roughly 700 pages of articles and book chapters took about 2–3 days. The goal was to put all key points on 4 pages — one for each session. I think I was able to reach that goal.

Why 4 pages, because there were 4 sessions.

For each session there was a list of readings. By separating these to one page each, it will be easier for me to remember them. It also puts a strict space limit. So I need to be concise (or use super small font).

One clear observation was that taking these notes by hand was a nice practice of hand writing, which I haven’t done in a while. Furthermore, hand writing engages much more senses than typing, therefore it is more memorable.

My approach seems to be working. Having taken the condensed notes, I’m reviewing them multiple times. I have another set of 4 pages, but without notes. I’m covering the notes and trying to recall all of the content, article by article. I’ll keep on repreating until I’m able to recall everything or I run out of time.

So far I’m able to remember most of the content from the first three sessions. The last one is still rather weak, but I have some time left. So, I’m fairly confident that I’ll be able to learn the content from the fourth session as well.
