Today I had the first exam in my doctoral program. There were no big surprises there. After all this was an exam with a clear target of checking if we remember what we read. Questions essentially asked to list and discuss main points from several articles.

Overall, I’m happy with my answers. All except for one article I was fully confident that I remembered the main points that the question was targeting. The one where I wasn’t sure had three main points and I clearly remembered two of these. The last one was a bit more vague, but still roughly what it should have been.

Let’s what feedback I’ll get, but I’m fairly confident about my answers.

Beyond the exam, I had another useful and potentially important meeting with a person able (and willing) to connect me with several companies. The circle of people working on AI topics in Finland is fairly small, so there is a lot of cross-references, which helps. Of course, it also works as a filter for people who are not performing.

Another, beyond that. Next class — Doctoral Course in Strategy and Venturing is starting next week. First pre-class assignments are due on Monday. It will be an interesting course covering multiple different research streams within the field. Great that we will get a chance to present various articles and critically evaluate them as well. This is, I think, what I was missing from the previous class — some more practical exercises in research article and theory development, other than working on own research proposal.
