What do you feel we need to learn in order to make the world a better place? This question was put to people across the world, people like you. Age of Wonderland invited them to express and share their lessons learned through experience and personal interests through organizing a Day of Learning.

The Teacher report’s of in total 100 Days of Learning will be gathered online. The last twenty will be public events presented at a summit at the People’s Pavilion during World Design Event 2017, 21–29 October 2017, Eindhoven, the Netherlands.

100 Days of Learning is the 2017 program of knowledge-platform Age of Wonderland, a global learning event to exchange valuable life experiences with peers.

Age of Wonderland invited innovators, scientists, engineers, artists, designers, social entrepreneurs and thinkers from around the world to share their stories and ideas from their own personal experience and practice. In order to rediscover knowledge, challenge beliefs, and exchange life experiences with others. To make the world a better place, we need to embrace change on an individual level, and to inspire others to do the same.

The Age of Wonderland team has selected the proposals for the 100 Days of Learning. Participants become part of the global Age of Wonderland network and will receive a small stipend to carry out their Day of Learning. The so called teachers will be given feedback relating to content, communication and production of their Day of Learning.

What is the purpose of 100 Days of Learning?
Age of Wonderland wants to inspire and provoke a feeling of individual possibility and responsibility to be part of the change this world needs by opening and appreciating a parallel sphere of individual knowledge. By sharing and reflecting experiences during a Day of Learning the radius of learning is extended.

What is a DAY OF LEARNING?
A Day of Learning is an interactive gathering, with at least two or more people who share some of their personal knowledge, wisdom and experience with one another.

What can you do with the Days of Learning? Some Days will be announced (between June and October 2017) for you to participate in. All the Days results in a clear and direct report of the knowledge shared, in a way others understand what the intention of the Day of Learning was and find their own way to connect to that knowledge. We hope to share all the wisdom by gathering hundred inspiring recipes in total! Preferably the Day is documented by the teachers and their participants through pictures, text and video. The teacher will share this online, by publishing it as a blog on the platform Medium. It will take part of the 100 Day of Learning publication at Medium in the form of a so called article. This forms the base of a new network and the knowledge will find it’s way to the world. The Age of Wonderland website and social media will actively refer to the content delivered by the teachers.

What kind of knowledge are we talking about?
The knowledge people feel they need to share with others in order to make a positive change. Knowledge that has made a big difference in their life. Knowledge that will shift perspectives, and makes you want to undertake changing actions. Knowledge that has a positive influence on our surroundings and communities can contribute to a more open, sustainable and happy society worldwide!

What does a Day of Learning look like?
There is no fixed format for a day of learning. All we ask is that the ones organizing a day, the teachers, consider how to translate their perspective into a transferable act or tool that can be applied by others independently, enabling them to embrace, copy, implement, personalize, hack the concept or lesson. Teachers are free to do so according to their vision. However, we do strongly suggest the following conditions:

  • group size between 10–20
  • a location that allows for concentration and non-hierarchical debate
include an activity like a walk, a workshop, a dinner, a hack-a-thon, a round table
  • duration between 2 hours to a full day and night
  • provide drinks and food, as well as writing materials, post-its
  • participants are invited by the teacher, also when it’s a public event
  • the teacher shares personal knowledge/wisdom with the group
  • participants are asked to reflect personally on the topic
  • participants are invited to also create a day of learning

Can you give an example?
During his Day of learning Age of Wonderland’s 2016-fellow Branly López from Guatemala shared the power and impact of ‘gratefulness’ in his life. He finds that gratefulness gives us the option to stand still and realize what we already have, instead of comparing ourselves with others and wanting more and more; as this dissatisfaction can also lead to more greed and fosters our consume oriented, capitalistic systems.

Teacher: Branly López
Location: Baltan Laboratories, Eindhoven, The Netherlands
Number of participants : 8
Subject: gratefulness
Length: 130 minutes
Promise: Start every day with being grateful for three things in your life.

What happens after a Day of Learning?
To conclude a Day of Learning, the participants are asked to write down a promise on a piece of paper, anonymously: a private pledge connected to what they individually found as a lesson in the Day Of Learning: something to do differently after this day from now on. To encourage each other to commit to this vow, the promises are being redistributed blindly among the group and looked into by one other participant. Now this knowledge is officially shared and the personal promise made solid.

Who is behind the organisation of Age Of Wonderland?
Age of Wonderland is made possible by Hivos, Baltan laboratories and Dutch Design Foundation and generously supported by World Design Event, Dutch Design Week Eindhoven, The Art of Impact, Design Academy Eindhove, Creative Tracks and the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.
