Last day [100/100]

Today is the last day of #the100dayproject. It is also the last day that I’m taking Wednesdays off on maternity leave. I had a very flexible maternity leave — I took about 2.5 months off up front, and then worked 2 days a week for about two months, and then worked 4 days a week for another few months. Jackson is over 8 months old now.

This morning, I strapped Jackson into a carrier, and we walked Alina to preschool. On the way home, he started to fall asleep, which he often does if he is in the carrier being walked around for 20 minutes. My usual reaction is “oh god no, please don’t fall asleep, stay awake!!!” because I don’t want to be stuck with a sleeping baby strapped to me. If you remove him after he’s fallen asleep, his body says “nap’s over!” and then I don’t get any time to do stuff. Today, I figured it was my last Wednesday at home with him, so when we returned home, I eased myself onto the sofa and enjoyed the feeling of a sleeping baby on me. I fell asleep too, and woke up feeling wonderfully refreshed.

Since it’s the last day, I tried to make sure I did a good mix of have-to-do things and fun-to-do things. When you have two kids, fun-to-do things ends up being stuff like, wander around Berkeley Bowl with only one child buying stuff in the bulk foods section, and splurging on some Noosa yogurt because #yolo. I stocked up on ingredients for my famous granola — my husband, Alina, my mom, my cousin, and my friend all really like it.

On this last day of maternity-leave-Wednesdays and of my 100-day project, I’m thankful to Medium the company (and all the people I work with) for having been an inspiring place to work for the last 4.5 years. I’ve taken two maternity leaves while at the company, and this last one especially has been really everything I could have hoped for. I’m also thankful to Medium the product for being the place where it made sense to do this.

Here are some photos from my day.
