Being mindful

I don’t want to go to sleep yet. Another article, another email, another tweet to read, another scroll on social feeds.

My mind is racing through endless timelines of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media networks that became our masters of attention. We long forgot things that used to be important, like phone numbers of a few close friends, the address of a favorite restaurant, intelligent quote we tried to live by and lyrics to a song we used to sing with our friends after few beers. My head is full. Full of meaningless data, news headlines, useless puns and news about politics.

Yet we don’t remember to stop. To take a walk in nature and observe mighty tree trunks, to breathe the fresh air. We don’t remember to go on the river bank and just let the moment consume us. Moments of silence bore us or worse, make us anxious. There, in the pocket, lies the whole world. And lies to us.

All is not lost. Be aware. Be mindful of your breathing. Meditate, if only for a few moments. Smell that flower. Drink a glass of water. Stop for a moment. Take your time. Empty your pockets and run. Forget everything.

Peace is coming.

This post is part 12. of my 100 Days of Writing Challenge.
