We humans are not exactly rational beings. So when something shinny comes along… oh, look, I want that. Or can we step back for a while and think about our purchases a bit?

So, you’re buying a new phone. The easiest thing do to is to check your provider’s offer and get the one you like. Unless you want to evaluate what do you really want and how much are the real costs.

  1. Think about your phone usage, why are you even using your phone? Are you using it for emailing and a bit social networking, or are you heavy photography user and Instagram is your game? Do you play games on your phone or is your fun time just on the messenger and chat?
  2. Size matters. Do you want to be able to put your phone in a small pocket? Do you want and need to use it with one hand? To you want to read a lot of text on it?
  3. Battery life. More or less, all smart phones have a one-day battery life. But if you need it to be more, be aware of that. Maybe your phone doesn’t even have to be a smart phone.
  4. Robustness. Do you need your phone at work, where there is plenty of chance you’ll drop it? Does your phone rest on your desk always? Are you near water?
  5. Simplicity. If you’re a geek, you probably don’t even need this help. But if you are looking for a phone that doesn’t require you to be a rocket scientist, then you might choose your phone that is easier to use.
  6. Budget. Most mobile carriers provide the ability for small payments each month in exchange for you phone and possibly upgrade your plan. But, if you’re like me, you might want to buy a phone with no obligations, straight from the shop.
