Sadly enough, I decided to trade the Alps for this beautiful volcano. Since the weather gods did not have mercy on me, and I didn’t fancy a walk in the cloud with Everest winds, I made my way down into the Kamikochi valley and up to Yake-dake. I stayed, again alone, in the cutest little hut just below the crater, woke up at 4 AM saw the sunrise, came back to the hut and had a beautiful breakfast.

Start & End Point: +36.340967° N, +137.645756° E (Yari hut)

Distance covered: 26.9 km up, 12.1 km down

Time: 9h06 day 1, 6h06 day 2

Vertical gain/descent: 771 m

Weather & Visibility: Started in the cloud but walked into the sunshine

Good For: Sulfur smell, great views on the Hotaka range

Route day 1 and 2.
