10) Into the Good Night
A fine line rests
between the shadow of death
and a glimmer of life.
Pasted together by chemical band-aids
He’s a flimsy box past his prime.
No room for further decline
beyond the miracle of medical minds.
Each breath full of hope
it will be his last.
Eternity embraced, may the last gasp
take him away from his misery.
Bright fears steer
him to feign courage
where only dim disdain remains.
Lucid dreams so real
follow his wishes into
the good night.
Dark with a pale light
at the end of the tunnel.
May it light his way
and mark his path
to meet his maker
arriving without delay.
