F. Scott Fitzgerald said “In a real dark night of the soul it is always three o’clock in the morning.” By that hour on November 9th our country’s soul was “cold and broken.” Leonard Cohen left a soundtrack for us between the cracks, because “that’s where the light gets in.” We’re slowly thawing from the chill that good people stood by and did nothing, that not only could it happen here, it did.

Even the most incandescent, superlative Moon since 1948 can’t shine away the pain. Only one thing trumps fear, The Beatles knew it, “All you need is love.”

Like charity we give ourselves, love begins at home. With the internet intertwining the world like unprunable kudzu vines, love may start at home but more than (happily) ever (after?) what the world needs now is love, sweet love.

Rumi said “Whenever we can manage to love without expectations, calculations, negotiations we are indeed in heaven.” Let’s pray Leonard’s calculations were right and “maybe there’s a God above” because America’s latest negotiation (election|hostile takeover?) confounded all expectation, proving that “love is not a victory march.” Still, we put one foot in front of the other. For me words are the way forward, inspiring a love.letter, in 100 parts, on 100 days, in a 100 words… all of them love.
