I rarely leave the house before I have breakfast. It confounds me how some people can rush out the door in the morning, not fuelling themselves up to go out into the day.

It sets me in the right frame of mind for the rest of the day too. It gives me the energy to go out, kick butt and eat frogs. That last thing is not literal, by the way. It just means that I get the biggest, meanest activity done and out of the way before I do anything else, like writing a chapter out of my book.

If you’re wanting change in your life, you need to examine what processes your plugged in to. If you’re rushing around in the morning on empty, then of course you’re going to want to buy a muffin and coffee later. If you had something prepared at home, that simple change in habit would propagate throughout the day.

For me, it’s about feeling like I’m in control of my life — that above all else is what’s important to me.
