21) Constant Reminders That Life is Short
My friend is 34-years old and was hospitalized for five days due to a bacterial infection in his heart. A random incident. Unaware that he was born with a heart defect. At 34-years old, he’ll have to undergo open heart surgery.
The doctors say it’s routine. Everything will be fine.
When you conduct heart surgeries on a daily basis, it’s routine. When you’ve never undergone an open heart surgery, it’s not routine. It’s not fucking fine.
Tomorrow is Friday. I could’ve sworn yesterday was Monday. This week flew by. This weekend will fly by. I’ll repeat everything on Monday.
Where am I going with this?
You could wake up one day (or not) and find out you have a heart defect. Or cancer. “How did this happen? Why me?” You’ll ask yourself.
You could wake up one day and get to work. You see the wrinkles on your hands as you type. Your leathered skin in the monitor’s reflection. “How did this happen? How did time fly by so fast?”
Life is short. Be yourself. Be epic.
