Life is more than protecting yours and being happy
As the Black Eyed Peas once said, “If you only have love for your own race, then you only leave space to discriminate”.
Ethnocentrism is basically the evaluation of another culture based on pre-conceived notions that you’ve formed because of your culture. In other words, you basically look at everyone else’s culture and your measuring stick is your own culture.
Is it possible to grow up a certain way and live the entirety of your life one way and then be able to completely obliterate your own biases and accept someone else’s culture as “normal” as you would your own?
I’m not sure if it is. We’re imperfect humans. This means that we’re bound to hold biases. We all already have them. If you voted for POTUS, then at the very least, you know you have preferences.
Try to get over them, okay? All this political news is stressful and it makes me want to bury my head in the sand. Although I know that if everyone that wants to work together buries their figurative head in the sand, there will be no one left working collaboratively.
Anyway, I’ll get off of my soapbox. Have yourself a wonderful day, and fight those biases, especially the hateful ones.
