26) My First Pair of Airwalks

I was labeled a “skater dude” when I walked into first period in 5th grade. I was also labeled a “poser.”

I wore the standard athletic brands on my feet: Nike, Adidas, and Reebok.

My friends wore Vans and Airwalks.

It wasn’t to classify myself as a certain person. Or to classify myself in a certain group.

Maybe I was trying to fit in closer with my friends. Or if I was as curious as I am now, maybe I just wanted to try a different experience.

It sent a signal though.

And the journey continues to establish my identity.
