Normally I’m not a fan of these remakes. There is always something lost in translation.

For example Coupling and The Inbetweeners are two British comedies that I enjoy, especially the latter. It’s a brilliant comedic representation of what it’s like to be an average teenager in the UK.

I watched an episode of the American remake for each of these shows and they just didn’t work. At all. Maybe I need to give them a bit more time to grow on me but unfortunately I was constantly comparing it to it’s British origin.

However the American version of The Office is brilliant. I found the British version pretty annoying. The main character David Brent is meant to be annoying but they probably did to good of a job.

In the American version they replaced David Brent with Micheal Scott and although he’s a complete idiot, there is something endearing about him. The whole show works beautifully.

I only “discovered” the American version a few weeks ago. To be honest I wasn’t that interested in watching based on my lack of interest in the UK version. I stumbled across a clip on Youtube and realised that I needed to at least watch one episode. And I’m very glad that I did.

I may be a few years late to the party, but I’m enjoying it all the same.
