405. Two Branches Episode 17 — It looked so easy on the box
A few weeks ago Mothercare in Malaysia was having a pretty good sale. I went to acquire some simple items for the Twins and ended up purchasing a handprint mould set for each of the Twins.
It’s all looked so simple on the box. Knead the clay quickly, gently press your baby’s hand into it, leave it to set and hey-presto you have a long lasting memory of your child’s tiny fingers.
In reality the clay is too hard to make a good indent into unless you don’t mind pressing your little one’s hands very hard and risk hurting them.
We had multiple attempts before we decided to try their feet instead. It was slightly easier but still not great.
The thing with 4 month old babies is that they like to curl their fingers and toes. So when you try to press their little feet into the mould you just end up with a mess of indents as they continue to curl and uncurl their toes.
Although a tad frustrating, my wife and I had a pretty good laugh trying to get the twins to give us a decent imprint of their feet. They both just took it in their stride and couldn’t understand what all the fuss was about.
After umpteen attempts we managed to get a passable imprint for each of them. My only regret is that we didn’t do it when they were true newborns.
