406. Entrepreneur support groups — pt. 1
There are organisations around the world that were created as something of a support group for entrepreneurs. The general modus operandi is that you pay a yearly membership fee and each month a small group of you will meet up to discuss the challenges of entrepreneurship and get support from another.
In some instances it also acts as a lead generation tool.
Normally the groups are limited to 8–12 entrepreneurs and then the a new group must be formed to accommodate any additional. This means that everybody gets the chance to be heard.
These things are not just a gathering of people who sit around gossiping. Some of them are incredibly well structured, more so than many businesses.
It’s quite an interesting thing to see. I’ve seen one for small entrepreneurs like myself and I’ve also been lucky enough to peep behind the curtain of a larger one, where your business must have a turnover of at least USD1 million per year before you can even be considered for membership.
I find it incredibly interesting that this kind of ecosystem exists for entrepreneurs.
Tomorrow I’m going to write about the differences that I observed between the groups for smaller entrepreneurs and those for more established entrepreneurs.
