45. A huge reduction in income but we couldn’t be happier

Last night I met with some of my ex-colleagues. Out of five of us four are now trying to do their own thing, the fifth is inbetween jobs but their partner is also trying to do their own thing.

We all have two things in common:

  1. Our income has dropped dramatically since we worked together
  2. We are all so much happier now than we were before

We shared stories about preparing our own food and eating before meeting (employed) friends for dinner, about how some of us look at things that we had bought in the past when still employed and are now cursing (this was mainly about bags).

We also shared stories about how we love our flexibility, how it’s great to be charting our own paths and how we can’t imagine having to do 9–5 again. We are all at varying stages in our entrepreneurial adventures but none of us can claim to have “made it”, yet.

Sadly though, the reality is that some of us may have to re-enter formal employment at some point. Even if it’s just for a short while to refill our depleted savings.

But for the time being we are going to enjoy our happiness as long as our pennies can last.
