58. Oskar Fischinger

Yes, weird (I know)! What is the name of an abstract, 20th Century artist doing on a Medium blog post?
This morning I clicked on my browser, to begin typing out the draft for today’s 100 Naked Word post. Google’s doodle for the day popped up (not my intention) before I could log in to Medium. I tried resisting the urge to click — the last time I did that, led to hours of wandering (which isn’t really good for ‘productivity’).
So I decided to do a harmless ‘hover of the cursor over the doodle’; “Oskar Fischinger’s 117th birthday” popped up. My curiosity was stoked. A few clicks later, I was led to an interface that enables anyone to create visual musical compositions — it was exciting to play around with and an amazing ‘discovery’! I googled more about Oskar ; his ‘life as an artist’ wasn’t all so rosy — but then he made some impact. He deeply believed in his work and persisted — with later success of course. It served to be a moment of truth and reflection; “Would you still do what you do minus the accolades or the applause?”

“Music is not limited to the world of sound. There exists a music of the visual world” Oskar Fischinger 1951

Thank you for reading :D
