Remember the days you had to grow your own food? No, me either. I’m only 33 and was born and raise in Cleveland.

Food is mass produced and commoditized. Its origin has no meaning to us. We have no relationship to the people involved with growing it.

When you grow your own food, a primitive sensation arises that brings you closer to it. That feeling brings you closer to your ancestors. It brings you closer to your 10,000-year old relatives that no choice but to grow their own food.

Do it for health reasons, but do it to appreciate food. Do it so you don’t take food for granted. Other people don’t because they don’t have that luxury. They don’t have the luxury to wrap their food in bacon, or pour chocolate syrup over it.
