85. Get organized so you can create a mess
Maximize your ability to make your mess productive.

In general, I’m an organized person. However since becoming a writer, I have come to understand that I have to embrace the mess if I want to create something beautiful.
I’ve fought against my creativity since I became an adult and especially since I had a child. I had to abide by deadlines, do things by the book and be a stable person. But I can’t fight the creative side of me any more. I must write. I must channel this side of me in a productive way.
This doesn’t mean that I’m abandoning the creative side of me — far from it. I’m going to get the two of them to work together. My resources are finite so I have to make sure that when I’m creative, I’m only creative. I need to give my mind space to that.
This means being organized enough to schedule time to be messy. That’s how I go about my creating, anyway.
