[Note: I started keeping a diary when my wife and I began trying to have a baby. I’d like to share some of it here.]

April 24, 2017

As I wrote earlier, my wife had some light spotting last week. It didn’t turn into anything serious, but it made us decide to cancel our trip to see her family out of state. Even though going on a plane would’ve probably been fine, there was no sense in risking it. Her family understood. It sucked we wouldn’t see them, but they don’t want the baby to fall out either.

Fast forward to tonight. When I went to wash the dishes, I noticed brown sludge oozing up from the drain and threatening to overflow onto the floor. I bilged the water out while my wife called a 24-hour plumber to come fix the problem (which turned out to be a massive stoppage in the main line). It’s funny because this would’ve been day two of our trip to visit my wife’s family. Had we gone, there’d be no way for us to know disaster had struck, and we would’ve come home from the trip to be greeted by ruined floors.

My wife’s OBGYN said her spotting last week could’ve been caused by something as innocent as broken capillaries, which is common. Maybe our baby used his telekinetic powers to foresee the doom that would await us if we went to visit my wife’s family, and he popped some blood vessels so we’d cancel the trip. I wouldn’t put it past the little guy. I mean, I’m all for coincidences and all, but this was a pretty huge coincidence.
