A Time Hack I Didn’t Know I Was Doing

and I’ve been doing it for years!

When I was young, my mother implemented a ‘chore day’. Together, on the same night every week, my family would take part in cleaning the house.

Between 5–8pm on Thursday nights, we were a family with a mission. We completed all chores — vacuum, dust, laundry, dishes, cleaning rooms, you name it. Whatever needed to be done, got done that night.

Without realizing it, I continued this ritual in my adult life. On Saturdays, I spend 4–5 hours cleaning, organizing, paying bills, etc. And, I do it because it helps me stay organized and makes me feel good.

A few weeks ago, I came across this post, and the author describes what I do on Saturdays a “maintenance day”. A day where people do and complete mundane stuff, so they can propel forward to do things they really enjoy with a clear and clutter free life and mind.

Wow, this is actually a thing!

Discussing this with my mother, she reminded me of two things:

1. She chose Thursday night so we could have the weekends (Friday night to Sunday night) to do what we wanted.

2. She also chose Thursday night as our “order in food night”. This would guarantee we would all show up — since we only ordered in once a week. And nobody ever wanted to miss that!

Clever mom, clever.

This piece is part of my commitment to daily.
