Above and Beyond

Day 2

Everyone has some significant roles to play in life, some roles are assigned to us while some are taken up by choice. Every role requires some degree of responsibility from our side, even if those responsibilities are not clearly defined, there may be some expectations.

A mother is expected to take care of her child, no body has to come and tell her that it is her duty. An employee is expected to complete the given tasks, similarly a student enrolled in a college is expected to study. Whatever such roles we take up we know what we are expected to do.

However, we do get to choose how we fulfill those expectations. Some people may fall short of fulfilling the expectations(despite the fact that they tried). Some may do what is necessary , and then there is a minority who goes out of its way to do more than is required. This minority is different from the former two in the sense of its spirit. This minority is the group of people we all want to have in our life but few our willing to be like this themselves.

We love people who do something more than what we wanted them to do. whether its a spouse , a friend, an employee or a colleague. But how often do we consciously try to make an extra effort ourselves? Its not even that hard. Little gestures, little kind words are all it takes to let someone know you are willing to go the extra mile for them. And the intention shouldn't be to get something back in return, the intention should be to get the satisfaction of knowing that we gave our best.
