Acceptance
Day 3
If we boil down all our problems and worries to one statement, it is that life is not what we want it to be. The very reason we find ourselves unhappy most of the time is that the picture of what a good life should be like in our head is different from what life actually looks like right now.
Having a better vision of life and aspiring towards it is essential, but what makes it effective is accepting how things are in the present. If we try to resist reality we can never really make it better. If we deny the control that we have and the control we do not have, we can suffer a great deal.
Acceptance is a mighty word. It encompasses so much more than we can hold. Accepting ourselves, our circumstances, people and realities is no easy task. But its crucial.
Something is hurtful to us only when we find it hard to accept it. A betrayal by a trusted one. A failure after much effort. Death of a loved one. These things are hard to endure. But in order to move on we have to accept the realities of life no matter how harsh they might seem.
Embracing the idea that life won’t always exactly go according to us makes it easier for us to cope with and get past hard times.
