At the Library

I have now been to all three of the libraries within walking distance of my new place. I paid my first visit to the central library today, right outside of the park.

At the help desk, the librarian gave me a handy map of the building with zones labeled by call number ranges. It was so satisfying to walk along the rows of books; to wander aimlessly among the shelves and still feel a sense of order. Every tome is in its place, right where you expect it to be.

When I found my way to the book I was searching for I was almost dissapointed. I wanted to keep searching. Pursuit is an enjoyable distraction.

Now it’s time to pause, to read and listen.
