Blink

That’s all it took.

In a fraction of a second, the earth beneath her well worn Nikes shifted. She did not see it coming, the lost key, finally found and sliding so easily into the perfectly sized hole.

There had been so many keys before this one. Tried and failed. Tossed and left behind for others who might find a fit with them.

Clues had been strewn throughout a lifetime, often overlooked or ignored. It took all keys from the past, all failed attempts, to guide her to this one.

Once open, the light poured in illuminating what she had been looking for all along. Once seen, it would never be locked away again.

Her true self was found hiding beneath layers of should be’s and could be’s and used to be’s.

This true self has no one purpose, but has the ability to make each thought and action purposeful.

Hello me! Where have you been all my life?
