Though the Indian society is fast progressing, there are many people who are still superstitious and have a strong faith in the local beliefs. While some of them are quite hilarious, few others are really interesting, nonsensical even.

In India, anything from the call of a bird to the falling of utensils is considered an omen.

  • If the girl’s horoscope is matching well with the boy’s horoscope, when they get married, they will have a successful married life.
  • When a discussion is going on if you hear a lizard making a noise on the ceiling or on the wall, it is a good omen to let you know that it is true.
  • Continuous hiccups are considered a sign of someone close badly remembering you.
  • A black cat crossing your way is considered as a bad omen.
  • If the left eye of a woman twitches it is not good, and the right eye twitching for a man is also not good.
  • If somebody is leaving home for the day’s work and you sneeze, it’s a bad omen.
  • In many homes in India, even today, menstruating women are not allowed freedom, movement, to cook or touch their family.
  • Broken glass is symptomatic of bad luck. In fact, even looking into a broken mirror is considered inauspicious.
  • If you are born under the influence of planet Mars, you are a maanglik and nobody wants to marry you.
  • Peepal trees are the abode of ghosts and spirits.
