One of my favorite writers wrote: “Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art… It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival.” It was C.S.Lewis. I won’t comment on this, it’s just the opinion I share.

What do we know about friends, friendship, really??? In the dictionary a friend is defined as one that is not hostile, or a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard. That’s what dictionary says. But what is a true friend means?

It’s self-evident that it’s not just someone you just keep in touch with. To put it in a nutshell, it’s the person you can totally and unconditionally rely on any time. The famous essayist Bacon has warned against the friendship between a very rich person and a very poor person. Economic disparity damages friendship. Thus friendship is a feeling of affection between two likeminded persons of similar status. And it doesn’t mean you have to be on the same wavelength, but just to be able to confide in this person and to add to it, we can really examine the sincerity of a friend during our time of hardship and trouble. True friend would always stand by you and one would never leave you.

There’s one quote from One Tree Hill series:

“At this moment there are 6,470,818,671 people in the world. Some are running scared. Some are coming home. Some tell lies to make it through the day. Others are just not facing the truth. Some are evil men, at war with good. And some are good, struggling with evil. Six billion people in the world, six billion souls. And sometimes… all you need is one.”

And for me that is a true friend of mine. And usually it’s the one you need, not a boyfriend or girlfriend, but someone to share a soul with and make it all better.

It stands to reason that it’s pretty difficult to find a treasured friend. But it is worth the search which can continue for ages. Summing it up, I would like to say that true friends are like diamonds, precious and rare. And when you find one, it’ll be the end of everything you’ve been through and then the beginning of a new story with the words…

And then.. there were two
