Cultures are based on similarity.
When a group of people share the same views or value system, they form a culture.
When a group of people share the same language, they become part of the same culture.
Humans are social animals. We form tribes based on observed commonalities.

Being part of a group that speaks french is great. You understand everything, you can communicate without barrier, etc. But there is a problem. This group only speaks french.
Although french is a beautiful language , and is by the way, my first language, this lack of diversity is boring. It limits the scope of interaction of the group.

What happens when the group encounter’s people who speak a different language and its survival depends on their ability to bridge this barrier?

Sameness is boring. Diversity is beauty. Oneness is even better.
You don’t have to be the same to be one but you can be one even when you are diverse.
