Drabble 07: Empty

She removes the can from the shelf, holds it up. It feels empty.

She opens the can. It is empty.

She closes it. It will still be empty.

She puts it down, stores it away. It will only be empty.

She pours water in it; the water flows through the cracks. It is empty again.

She puts large rocks in it. The can breaks, the rocks fall through. It can only be empty.

She discards the metal, and it hits the bottom of the trashcan with a resounding thud. Still empty.

She watches the garbage truck take it away. She knows it is empty.
