Embrace the Confusion

I used to think grown-ups know what they are doing, until I became a grown-up.

Growing up in the Asian culture of respecting the elder, sometimes authority, I thought I wasn’t sure of stuff because I was young and inexperienced.

Part of that is true. Before I started cooking every meal for myself, I probably had much less idea of what it takes to cook a good meal or get everything I need from the grocery store in one trip.

But as my experience accumulates, my confusion and my awareness of ignorance also accumulate. Sometimes I understand something I have thought about for a long time, but other times, I just push the conclusion further and end up with more questions.

I saw the Jungle Book yesterday and thought it told a good story. It turns out, to tell a good story, we don’t have to have everything figured out. We just need to discover a few simple truths and hold onto them because they speak of who we are.

It doesn’t take total clarity to live a good story.
